The Lufthansa Group airlines welcomed 12,5 million passengers in April 2019.
This shows an increase of 3 per cent compared to the previous year’s month. The available seat kilometres were up 4 per cent over the previous year.
On the other hand, sales increased by 6.5 per cent. Compared to April 2018, the seat load factor rose by 2 percentage points to 83.3 per cent.
Cargo capacity increased by 9.3 per cent year-on-year, while cargo sales decreased by 4.2 per cent in revenue tonne-kilometre terms.
As a result, the Cargo load factor showed a corresponding reduction, decreasing by 8.4 percentage points to 59.3 per cent.
Network Airlines with more than 9.3 million passengers
The Network Airlines including Lufthansa German Airlines, SWISS and Austrian Airlines carried more than 9.3 million passengers in April – 5 percent more than in the prior-year period.
Compared to the previous year, the available seat kilometres increased by 4.1 per cent in April. The sales volume was up by 6.7 per cent over the same period, with an increasing seat load factor by 2 percentage points to 83.3 per cent.
Strongest passenger growth at Vienna hub
In April, the strongest passenger growth of the network airlines was recorded at the Vienna hub with 5.9 per cent.
The number of passengers increased by 4.3 per cent in Frankfurt and Zurich each, in Munich they increased by 2.6 per cent.
The underlying offer also increased to varying degrees: in Vienna by 6.8 per cent, in Munich by 6.2 per cent, in Zurich by 4.6 per cent and in Frankfurt by 1.9 per cent.
Lufthansa German Airlines transported more than 6.2 million passengers in April, a 4.9 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
A 3.6 per cent increase in seat kilometres corresponds to a 6.4 per cent increase in sales. The seat load factor rose by 2.2 percentage points to 82.9 per cent.
Eurowings increases supply and sales
Eurowings (including Brussels Airlines) carried around 3.2 million passengers in April. Among this total, 2.9 million passengers were on short-haul flights and around 300,000 flew on long-haul flights.
This corresponds to a reduction of 2.3 per cent compared with the previous year, resulting from a reduction of 4.1 per cent on short-haul flights and an increase of 19.1 per cent on long-haul flights.
April capacity was 3.4 percent above its prior-year level, while its sales volume was up 5.8 percent, resulting in an increase of seat load factor by 1.9 percentage points to 83.1 percent.
In April, the number of seat-kilometres offered on short-haul routes was decreased by 3.4 per cent, while the number of seat-kilometres sold decreased by 0.6 per cent over the same period.
This results in a seat load factor of 82.6 per cent, which is 2.3 percentage points higher on these flights.
On long-haul flights, the seat load factor increased by 0.8 percentage points to 84.1 per cent over the same period. The 18 per cent increase in capacity was offset by a 19.1 per cent increase in sales.
